Welcome to Plum Island Studio

Sanctuary: Interiors and Gardens

November 14 to 27, 2009
FORZA 9 Gallery, Polis Chrysochous, Cyprus

Stephanie Wood’s latest painting exhibition opens on November 14th at the new and delightfully expanded Forza 9 Gallery in Polis Chrysochous, Cyprus. Her new body of work is fresh and Filigreecontemporary; characteristically bright and quirky, with something of a whimsical air.  The paintings are both sophisticated and naïve in style, the light treatment sometimes momentarily disguising the artist’s serious intent.

In this latest exhibition, Stephanie visually explores the concept of sanctuary: a place
of beauty and intimacy where each of us feels safe and at ease, separated and protected from the unpredictability of the outside world.

She paints both gardens and courtyards, and home interiors. The artist’s starting point is her own old stone house and walled garden in Droushia Village, near Polis, Cyprus; a very real sanctuary in her own life, which she shares with her husband Michael and an ever changing variety of house guests.

The artist's Plum Island Studio is in her home in the centre of Droushia village and can be visited by appointment.
